Punjab will have no power cuts from next year: Kejriwal
Jalandhar
AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced major upgrades in Punjab’s power sector, assuring residents that there will be no power cuts from next summer. He made the statement while addressing a gathering after laying the foundation for a new power transmission and distribution unit. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was also present at the event.
Kejriwal highlighted that nearly 90 per cent of Punjab’s residents already receive free electricity. “Farmers in the state are getting at least eight hours of guaranteed electricity for irrigation, which will soon be extended to round-the-clock supply,” he said. He added that the government is now focusing on ensuring 24-hour electricity for all users.
The planned infrastructure upgrades are extensive, including the laying of 25,000 km of new power cables, installation of 8,000 new transformers, and the establishment of 77 new power sub-stations. “The modernization of the entire power system is underway at a massive scale. By next summer, Punjab will see uninterrupted electricity supply,” Kejriwal claimed.
The AAP leader also criticized previous governments, saying that both Congress and the SAD-BJP administrations had failed to improve the state’s power distribution and transmission networks. He emphasized that the current initiatives are a step forward to modernize the sector and provide reliable electricity to every household and farm in Punjab.
Kejriwal’s remarks reflect the party’s continued focus on energy reforms, infrastructure development, and support for farmers, aiming to make electricity access efficient, affordable, and uninterrupted across the state.
