Neeraj Chopra’s Swiss retreat ahead of comeback season

New Delhi

After a challenging yet memorable season, Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra has retreated to Switzerland to recover and prepare for a stronger return in 2026. Speaking to reporters from Zurich, the 27-year-old reflected on the highs and lows of the season, including his 90m throw at the Doha Diamond League, while also discussing the injury and back issues that hampered his medal prospects at the World Championships, where he finished eighth with 84.03m.

Neeraj remains optimistic about the next season, saying, “The focus now is on recovery and getting stronger. The body feels good, and with rest, I am confident of coming back sharper.” Switzerland, he says, provides the perfect environment for recuperation, offering serene mountains, lush landscapes, and excellent training facilities. Chopra has fond memories of the country, including winning the Diamond League Trophy in Zurich and training at the Swiss Olympic Training Centre in Magglingen.

A self-described “eager traveller,” Chopra enjoys exploring Switzerland unplanned, taking advantage of the country’s punctual public transport to visit Interlaken, Bern, Lausanne, and Zermatt. While he frequently trains and competes in Switzerland, he stops short of calling it a second home, though he values the deep connections he has built there.

Chopra also reflects on the unpredictable nature of life and sport, noting that sometimes one must simply follow the heart and adapt. Balancing training, travel, and competition, he continues to embody discipline and passion, eager to translate his experiences into success in the upcoming season.

With Switzerland providing both mental and physical rejuvenation, Neeraj Chopra is poised to return stronger and more determined in 2026.
