Uddhav Thackeray accuses BJP of double standards

Thackeray accused BJP of selective Hindutva, election-time divisions, and hypocrisy in alliances and outreach to Muslims

Pune
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday accused the BJP of using social and religious issues for political gains while ignoring governance failures. Speaking at a press conference, Thackeray said the BJP showed hypocrisy in its stand on interfaith relationships. “If BJP does it, it’s immortal love; if others do, it’s love jihad. How is that fair?” he asked.

Thackeray criticised the BJP for promoting selective Hindutva and creating divisions between Hindus and Muslims only during elections. He pointed out that the BJP formed alliances with leaders like Nitish Kumar and N. Chandrababu Naidu, who are not known for pro-Hindutva politics. “BJP gave 32 lakh Muslims Saugat-e-Modi kits and still calls itself pro-Hindutva. When they do it, it’s love; when others do, it’s jihad,” he added.

He also targeted RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, saying the “sins of the RSS’s 100 years are now stuck in the nation’s throat.” Thackeray accused the BJP, the political wing of the RSS, of trying to turn India into a “Hindu Pakistan” by pushing authoritarian control instead of inclusive growth.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ignoring Maharashtra’s flood-hit farmers while announcing funds for Bihar elections. He demanded full loan waivers and Rs 50,000 per hectare aid for affected farmers.

Thackeray also supported activist Sonam Wangchuk, calling his arrest unjust. He accused the BJP of branding critics as “anti-national.” Hinting at a united front, Thackeray confirmed his continued alliance with the MNS and MVA partners for upcoming civic polls.
