Women’s Development Key to Nation’s Progress, Says Governor Gehlot

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot emphasized that women’s empowerment is essential for the nation’s progress at Maharani Cluster University convocation.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot highlighted the critical role of women in nation-building, stating that the progress of society and the country is closely linked to women’s development. He made the remarks while addressing the second and third convocations of Maharani Cluster University in Bengaluru today.

“The growth of individuals, families, and society is unimaginable without women. Education is the most powerful tool to transform the world, and when it empowers women, it lays the foundation for a progressive society and a strong nation,” the Governor said.

He noted that India’s cultural, democratic, economic, and military strengths have always coexisted with deep respect for women, rooted in scriptures and history. “Our Constitution guarantees equal status to women and empowers states to take affirmative action. Initiatives such as women’s reservation ensure their equal participation in public life and nation-building,” he added.

Governor Gehlot also acknowledged women’s significant contributions across medicine, engineering, education, security, and other sectors, emphasizing their role in both India’s freedom struggle and contemporary development. “Your contributions are vital in shaping India into a developed nation and preserving our environment,” he told the graduating students.

He lauded Maharani Cluster University for its commitment to advancing women’s education, stating, “The knowledge and skills you have gained here will help you achieve professional success and foster greater responsibility toward society. Along with your degrees, you carry a new identity as responsible citizens and future leaders.”

The convocation also saw the conferment of honorary degrees to individuals excelling in religion, culture, and social welfare. Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar, former Vice Chancellor Dr. Sabiha Bhumigowda, and University Vice Chancellor Dr. T.M. Manjunath attended the ceremony.
