Bengaluru is already feeling the festive buzz ahead of Diwali, with firecracker sales picking up, particularly in the outskirts and border towns like Hosur. Traders report strong demand as residents prepare to celebrate, signalling a promising season for the industry. Keshava V, State President of the Vishala Karnataka Pataki Varthakara Kshema Abhivrudhi Sangha, noted that government-facilitated stalls and public enthusiasm have kept the Diwali cracker tradition alive.
The state government oversees the distribution of stalls to licensed traders, ensuring safety and transparency. Civic authorities inspect BBMP playgrounds for suitability, while police allot stalls through a lottery system.
All crackers sold this Diwali are “green crackers,” complying with environmental norms and bearing QR codes, the Hasiru Nishana (Green Mark), and NIRI logos to regulate emissions and noise. Keshava emphasized that since the government mandated green crackers, all formal markets now offer only eco-friendly options.
Traders also aim to balance culture and climate, pledging to plant saplings while encouraging citizens to celebrate traditions. They urge people to enjoy Diwali responsibly, combining festive joy with environmental consciousness, ensuring both cultural preservation and ecological safety.
