Centre gives Karnataka ₹3,705 crore festive boost

New Delhi

Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Civil Supplies Pralhad Joshi on Thursday announced a special festive gift of additional tax devolution to all states, including Karnataka, on the occasions of Dussehra and Diwali.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Joshi said, “As per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Finance Ministry has released ₹1,01,603 crore in additional tax devolution funds to all 28 states.” Karnataka’s share of this advance is ₹3,705 crore. The funds were released to support states’ development and welfare works and will be provided along with October’s regular monthly allocation on October 10.

The advance installment aims to accelerate capital expenditure and development projects. Joshi advised states to use the funds effectively.

He also highlighted that heavy rains in Karnataka have badly affected farmers, especially in North Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka, leading to significant crop losses. To ease this burden, the Centre has increased support prices for several crops, including pulses, for the upcoming rabi season. Recently, it had directed procurement at support prices for tur, urad, soybean, and groundnut. For the rabi season, record-high minimum support prices have been announced for wheat, safflower, barley, masoor, mustard, and gram.

Joshi urged the Karnataka government to ensure that these benefits reach farmers fully, particularly in the rain-hit regions, to strengthen their livelihood and support agricultural recovery.
