Karnataka Legislative Council member B.K. Hariprasad has addressed concerns over misinformation being spread regarding the state’s ongoing Social and Educational Survey. Speaking to media on Monday, he clarified that the survey is not a caste census but a comprehensive exercise to assess the social, economic, and educational conditions of all communities in the state.
Hariprasad accused certain political leaders, including central ministers and BJP MPs, of making unnecessary criticisms and spreading propaganda to mislead the public. He explained that the upper-caste groups in Karnataka have traditionally avoided initiatives aimed at backward or marginalized communities. “Some are afraid that the disadvantaged and backward sections will gain recognition and opportunities through this survey, which is why misinformation is being circulated,” he said.
The legislator added that the government has already addressed minor procedural issues in the survey and is working diligently to complete it by October 7. He emphasized that the survey ensures equal opportunitiesfor all communities under reservation policies, while also reviewing which groups, like the Kuruba community, should be included under Scheduled Caste or other reserved categories.
Hariprasad urged citizens not to be swayed by politically motivated narratives, highlighting that the survey’s goal is to empower deprived communities and promote social and educational equity across Karnataka.
