Mithun Manhas nominated for BCCI presidency

Mumbai

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Sunday announced a new panel of candidates for the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s top posts, confirming that former cricketer Mithun Manhas has filed his nomination for president.

Alongside Manhas, former Test cricketer Raghuram Bhatt submitted his nomination for treasurer. Other nominees include Prabhtej Singh Bhatia for joint secretary, Arun Singh Dhumal for IPL Governing Council chairman, and Jaydev Shah for the apex council. Shukla himself will continue as vice-president, while Devajit Saikia has been nominated as secretary.

“The panel of candidates is ready, with Mithun Manhas as president. A new body is being formed for the subsequent tenure. Good wishes to all,” Shukla told reporters outside the BCCI headquarters. He confirmed Dhumal would retain his IPL chairmanship.

Manhas, 45, played domestic cricket for Delhi before representing Jammu and Kashmir and later taking up coaching roles. If elected, he will be only the third former cricketer after Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny to serve as BCCI president. He was nominated by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and emerged as frontrunner after informal discussions among Indian cricket’s key decision-makers on Saturday.

The president’s post became vacant after Roger Binny stepped down in August. Shukla has been handling affairs as interim president until a new body is finalized.

The election process began on September 21 with the filing of nominations. Scrutiny and the final list of candidates will be published on September 23. Voting, if required, will take place at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28, where the new leadership will be formally announced.
