PM Ramgoolam honors Gandhi, visits Tirupati, Ashram during India trip

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday welcomed Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam at Rashtrapati Bhavan, highlighting the strong and enduring relationship between India and Mauritius. Both leaders emphasized that the bond between the two countries is unique, rooted in shared history, language, culture, and values. President Murmu expressed confidence that under PM Ramgoolam’s experienced leadership, India-Mauritius ties will continue to strengthen and expand in the coming years, Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a social media post.
Earlier on Tuesday, PM Ramgoolam paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi, marking the concluding phase of his eight-day official visit to India. He also signed the visitors’ book at the memorial. The Mauritian leader arrived in the capital on Monday and was warmly received at the airport by Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on social media.
During his visit, Ramgoolam also visited the Tirumala Temple in Tirupati and participated in an event at the Bramarishi Ashram, where he was welcomed by revered spiritual leader Siddhguru Sideswar Bramedswi Gurudev Swami. His visit, scheduled from September 9 to September 16, includes political, cultural, and spiritual engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and fostering mutual understanding.
The meetings reflect the long-standing friendship between India and Mauritius, emphasizing shared values and common goals. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to further deepening cooperation in diplomacy, culture, development, and other areas, signaling a mutual desire to enhance the strategic and cultural partnership for the benefit of their nations and peoples. The visit also underscores the importance India places on its ties with Mauritius, ensuring a continued focus on collaboration and goodwill in the years ahead.
