Daylight burglary at Banaswadi house captured

CCTV footage helps police investigate daring theft, urging residents to enhance home security measures.

In a daring daylight burglary, a thief broke into a house located on the premises of a kalyana mantap in the Banaswadi area and escaped with cash and gold worth around ₹3.5 lakh. The incident, which occurred when the family was away, was recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the premises.

According to police, the burglar forced open the main door before ransacking the residence. He made away with ₹1 lakh in cash and gold ornaments estimated at ₹2.5 lakh. The victim, Sheetal Thapa, who manages the kalyana mantap and lives in the Sri Ramachandra Complex, lodged a complaint with the Banaswadi police.

At the time of the break-in, Thapa’s mother and wife were away from home while his daughter had gone for tuition, leaving the house unoccupied. This provided the thief with an opportunity to strike.

CCTV footage shows the suspect arriving on a two-wheeler and leaving with valuables taken from the household lockers. The visuals have become crucial evidence as police teams analyze the recordings to track his identity.

Police said preliminary investigation suggests the thief may have conducted a recce before the crime, targeting the house when it was least occupied. Teams are now scanning footage from nearby streets and checking local networks of known offenders. The incident has raised concerns over daytime burglaries in busy residential localities. Authorities have urged residents to ensure strong locks, use security measures, and alert neighbors when homes are left unattended.
