Universities must actively contribute to environmental protection and conservation, alongside providing quality education to students. Regular cleanliness drives should be organized once every month or two to maintain campus hygiene, said Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, while presiding over the 13th Annual Convocation of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University.
Quoting Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, he remarked, Nations are built in educational institutions. He emphasised the need to make universities institutions of excellence by fostering innovation, research, development, and inter-disciplinary collaborations.
Highlighting the demands of the 21st century, the Governor underlined the importance of digital literacy, innovative thinking, global outlook, and social responsibility. He urged students to become lifelong learners and called upon the youth to transform India into a self-reliant and developed nation by 2047, through talent, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
Our country has been a beacon of knowledge for thousands of years with contributions in Vedas, Upanishads, Ayurveda, Yoga, Philosophy, and Law. The National Education Policy has once again given these streams a place in the education system. The youth must research and present these treasures of knowledge on the global stage, as India advances on its journey to becoming a Vishva Guru, he said.
The Governor also lauded the rich cultural and historical legacy of Bellary and praised the university’s contributions.
During the convocation, Dr Vasundhara Bhupathi, Shri B. Naganagowda, and Shri Irfan Razak were conferred honorary degrees for their exceptional contributions in education, literature, health, and social service.
The event was attended by Prof Avinash Chandra Pandey, Director, Inter-University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi, Vice-Chancellor Prof M Muniraju, and other dignitaries.
Citing India’s achievements from Chandrayaan to AI, unicorn startups to digital payment systems, he said the youth remain the driving force behind the nation’s progress. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he urged students to Arise, Awake, and stop not till the goal is achieved, inspiring them to put knowledge into action and work towards building a developed nation, Governor Thawarchand Gehlot said.
