Misri highlights UN reform, counter-terrorism at SCO

Misri said Modi raised terrorism, trade, and cooperation with Xi at SCO

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri participated in the SCO Plus Meeting held in Tianjin on September 1, where he highlighted the need for United Nations reform, emphasized the importance of counter-terrorism, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to sustainable development. Speaking at the meeting, Misri underlined India’s readiness to share its initiatives and expertise in development with SCO partners. Details of his participation were shared on X by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri attended and spoke at the SCO Plus Meeting in Tianjin on 1 Sept 2025. He stressed the need for UN reform, reiterated that counter-terrorism must remain a key priority for the SCO, and highlighted India’s willingness to share its sustainable development initiatives with partner countries, Jaiswal noted.

Misri’s remarks came a day after he confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the issue of cross-border terrorism with Chinese President Xi Jinping during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the SCO summit on August 31. At an MEA briefing, Misri explained that the Prime Minister outlined the threat of cross-border terrorism and requested China’s support, which Beijing has agreed to provide in various forms.

He further mentioned that Modi and Xi also discussed ways to boost and balance bilateral trade, strengthen people-to-people ties, enhance cooperation on trans-border rivers, and jointly tackle terrorism. Misri’s participation highlighted India’s proactive engagement on security, development, and multilateral cooperation, reinforcing its commitment to regional stability and global partnerships through platforms like the SCO.
