Leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, reaffirmed their commitment to an open, transparent, fair, and multilateral trading system grounded in universally accepted international rules. The declaration comes amid global economic uncertainty triggered by U.S. tariff measures.

The joint statement condemned unilateral coercive actions that violate the UN Charter or World Trade Organization norms, undermining fair competition, international cooperation, food and energy security, and progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals. SCO members emphasised the importance of people-centred economic cooperation to enhance living standards across the region.

The summit underscored implementation of the SCO Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Economic Development Strategy up to 2030. Members committed to voluntary collaboration through special economic zones, including leveraging the China-SCO Regional Trade and Economic Cooperation Demonstration Zone in Qingdao.

Leaders also promoted cooperation in digital trade, e-commerce infrastructure, innovation, and creative industries, aiming to boost competitiveness, employment, and SME growth, particularly in rural areas. Proposals included SCO Technoparks, innovation clusters, and the Alem AI International Centre for technological development.

Financial cooperation was highlighted, with plans to increase the use of national currencies in mutual settlements, support the reform of global financial institutions to enhance developing country representation, and establish an SCO Development Bank.

Additionally, members pledged to expand energy cooperation, improve sustainability of production and supply chains, and foster a non-discriminatory, balanced global energy market, while advancing green industry initiatives and sustainable investment among SCO nations.
