The City Police Commissionerate has rolled out extensive security measures for the 11-day Ganeshotsav in Belagavi, deploying more than 4,000 police personnel, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) units, to ensure peace and order.
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said that 1,250 personnel from the city police department and 2,220 from across the district will be on duty, supported by one RAF platoon and 10 Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons.
This year, over 1,000 public Ganesha idols have been permitted within commissionerate limits, with visitors arriving not just from Karnataka but also from Goa and Maharashtra. To manage the grand immersion procession, a special gallery has been set up from College Road to Dharmaveer Sambhaji Circle.
Parking facilities have been arranged at multiple locations, including Sardar and CPED Maidan, Old Vegetable Market, Jhali near Deshpande Circle, Sambhaji Park on Mahadwara Road, and several lanes such as Bapat Galli and Ramalingakhinda Galli. On the final day, additional parking will be provided in open grounds and educational institution premises along the procession route.
To strengthen surveillance, 600 CCTV cameras have been installed across the city. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled said that 6,356 public Ganesha idols have been installed across the district this year, marking one of the largest celebrations in recent times.
