ECI holds talks with CPI, over 4,700 meetings

The ECI holds dialogues with parties to address concerns and strengthen electoral processes through structured meetings

New Delhi
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday continued its outreach to political parties with a meeting with the Communist Party of India (CPI), led by General Secretary D. Raja, at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi received the party’s suggestions during the consultation.

The ECI said the discussions are part of ongoing dialogues with national and state parties to address concerns and strengthen electoral processes within the legal framework. These structured meetings provide party leaders a platform to engage directly with the Commission.

Highlighting the scale of engagement, the ECI reported that in the last 150 days, 4,719 all-party meetings were conducted nationwide. These included 40 by Chief Electoral Officers, 800 by District Electoral Officers, and 3,879 by Electoral Registration Officers, involving over 28,000 party representatives.

Since May, the Commission has met leaders of national parties such as BSP President Mayawati, BJP President J.P. Nadda, CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby, NPP President Conrad Sangma, and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. State-level consultations included parties like Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, AIMIM, DMK, TDP, Shiv Sena, JD(U), BRS, BJD, and JD(S).

The ECI emphasised that these consultations reflect its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and participatory elections, ensuring the process is fair and representative of diverse democratic voices. With the CPI meeting, the Commission reaffirmed its resolve to continue open dialogue with stakeholders as preparations intensify for upcoming polls across several states.
