Yorkshire County Cricket Club has announced that 18-year-old Matthew Firbank has signed his first professional contract. The young cricketer has agreed to a two-year rookie deal, keeping him with the White Rose team until 2027.
Firbank is a rising talent from Yorkshire’s academy and has performed well across all formats in the Second XI this season. He made his England U19 debut earlier this year, taking 1-41 in a match against India U19 while playing for an Invitational XI.
The right-handed batter, who plays club cricket for Clifton Alliance CC in York, shared his excitement. “It’s really special for me to be signing my first professional contract with Yorkshire. I’m incredibly grateful to all who’ve supported me,” he said.
James Martin, Head of Performance Pathway at Yorkshire CCC, praised Firbank’s journey, calling it a proud moment for the club and everyone involved in his development. He also credited local clubs Pannal CC, Clifton Alliance CC, and coaches Muhammad Azharullah and Tom Craddock for shaping Firbank’s skills.
Firbank’s signing reflects Yorkshire’s commitment to nurturing young, local talent. The club now looks forward to seeing him grow and contribute to the senior side in the years ahead.
