Man Held After Scaling Parliament Wall in Early Morning Security Breach

A man was caught by security personnel after entering Parliament premises by climbing a tree and scaling the boundary wall, prompting multiple agencies to investigate.

In a serious security breach, a man scaled a wall of Parliament on Friday morning but was apprehended by security personnel and handed over to the police, official sources said. The incident occurred around 6:30 am when the individual, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, climbed a tree to access the Parliament complex and scaled its boundary wall.

The man is currently being questioned by multiple central agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, to ascertain his motive. A police source confirmed that the man used the tree to gain entry and was immediately detained upon detection. “He has since been handed over to the Delhi Police for further interrogation. IB and Special Cell officers are questioning him to determine his motive,” the source said.

The breach has raised serious security concerns, particularly as it coincides with the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament. The incident also evoked memories of the December 13, 2023, security lapse, when two men climbed into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery and released yellow-coloured smoke canisters, while two others carried out a similar act outside.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and assessing whether lapses in perimeter security contributed to the incident. Security agencies have stepped up vigilance across Parliament premises, and additional measures are expected to prevent similar attempts in the future.

Parliament officials and security agencies have stressed that thorough investigations are underway and that the man’s motives, whether political, ideological, or otherwise, will be determined before further action is taken. The breach has sparked a debate over existing security protocols and the need for stricter measures to safeguard India’s most important legislative institution.
