Residents of Narayanpur village in Hunasagi taluk have been facing a drinking water shortage for the past 20 days after several water pipelines were damaged during road and drainage works in the main market area.
Villagers said the damaged pipelines have not been repaired due to the slow progress of the ongoing road and drainage works. As a result, regular drinking water supply to the village has been disrupted, leaving residents to depend on alternative sources. Many villagers are reportedly being forced to travel to distant areas to collect water for their daily needs.
Residents said the prolonged shortage has caused considerable hardship, particularly for women, elderly people and families with children. They urged the authorities to take immediate action to restore the water supply and avoid further inconvenience to the people.
The villagers submitted a memorandum to the Executive Engineer of the Karnataka Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited (KBJNL), requesting officials to visit Narayanpur and inspect the affected areas. They urged the department to assess the extent of damage to the pipelines and arrange repairs at the earliest.
The residents also called for better coordination among the departments involved in road, drainage and water supply works. They said proper coordination was necessary to prevent damage to existing water pipelines during infrastructure projects and to ensure that essential drinking water services are not disrupted.
The villagers appealed to the authorities to respond immediately to the situation and restore regular drinking water supply. They said residents had already been struggling for nearly three weeks and sought a permanent solution to prevent similar problems in the future.
