Cong sweeps 4 Jaipur repoll wards

Intro: Repolling was necessitated after technical issues in EVMs prevented completion of counting in the affected wards earlier.

The Congress won six of the nine wards where repolling was held in Rajasthan’s urban local bodies, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured three wards, according to election results announced on Thursday.

The repolling was conducted after technical problems with electronic voting machines affected counting in the wards during the earlier exercise.

Repolling was held on Wednesday at 10 polling booths spread across four urban local bodies. The affected booths were identified after EVM-related issues prevented the completion of counting in nine wards. Voting was conducted again to enable authorities to complete the electoral process and declare results in the affected wards.

The results come shortly after the wider Rajasthan urban local body election results. In the broader exercise covering 10,000-plus wards, the BJP won 4,179 wards, while the Congress secured 3,613. Independents won 2,273 wards, making them a significant group across several urban local bodies.

The repolling results will add to the overall composition of the affected municipal bodies. In Jaipur, for instance, separate repolling in four wards resulted in Congress victories in all four seats, according to reports. The results come as political parties and independent councillors prepare for the next stage of municipal-level proceedings, including elections for chairperson and mayoral positions in the respective bodies.

The Election Commission ordered the fresh polling to address the technical issues that had disrupted the earlier counting process. The repolling was conducted under the supervision of election officials, with fresh counting held after voting concluded. The latest results complete the process in the nine affected wards and provide the final party-wise outcome for those seats.

The Rajasthan urban local body elections have produced victories for the BJP, Congress and independent candidates across different areas. The latest repolling results form only a small part of the overall statewide outcome, but they determine representation in the specific wards where the original process could not be completed because of technical problems.
