Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag has been honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024, marking a historic milestone for regional and national cinema. Announced by the Government of India, the recognition celebrates his extraordinary five-decade career spanning over 300 films across Kannada, Hindi, and other languages.
Beginning his cinematic journey in 1973 with Sankalpa, Nag seamlessly transitioned between pioneering parallel cinema projects with visionary directors like Shyam Benegal and immensely popular mainstream commercial hits. His unforgettable roles in classics such as Ondanondu Kaladalli, Ganeshana Maduve, and Mungaru Male, alongside iconic television appearances in Malgudi Days, cemented his legendary status across generations of viewers.
This national honor is particularly momentous for Karnataka, making him only the second Kannada actor to receive the accolade, following Dr. Rajkumar in 1995. Following his recent Padma Bhushan recognition in 2025, Nag dedicated this latest achievement to the people of Karnataka, celebrating a lifetime of unmatched artistic brilliance.
