Top civic leaders in the city are stepping up efforts to promote sustainable urban management and green energy initiatives. The Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, alongside Bengaluru West City Corporation Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K.V., conducted a detailed on-site inspection of prominent environmental facilities within the Yediyur Division. The high-level delegation closely evaluated the working of local waste-to-energy projects and organic processing units to ensure optimal performance and operational efficiency across municipal infrastructure networks.
During their visit, the officials toured the advanced bio-methanisation plant responsible for processing solid municipal waste collected from across the zone. This facility converts organic waste into biogas, which is successfully utilized to generate electricity sufficient to power the lighting and maintenance needs of one hundred six local public parks. Additionally, contaminated liquid runoff generated during waste processing is safely channeled to an adjacent facility on the Yediyur Lake bund, where it is converted into high-grade organic manure used to maintain 256 parks.
Following the inspections, the Chief Commissioner and the Corporation Commissioner issued strict directives to supervising engineers and plant operators. They emphasized the importance of maintaining absolute cleanliness, robust operational systems, and meticulous record-keeping across all municipal processing sites. The delegation also reviewed local ecological conservation efforts, including special habitat arrangements made under the ‘Baanadi Marali Baa Goodige’ initiative near the lake bund to support the breeding of migratory birds, alongside checking operations at the nearby wildlife treatment center.
The inspection tour extended to several community and sports facilities in the surrounding neighborhood. Officials visited the Dr. Puneeth Rajkumar Auditorium at the Anakra Community Hall to review seating arrangements and general upkeep, followed by a stop at the Navatare Badminton Academy to inspect local sports infrastructure. Prominent local representatives and senior municipal engineers accompanied the civic chiefs throughout the visit, underscoring the administration’s commitment to transparent governance, environmental sustainability, and community welfare.
