The Bengaluru City Police have launched a special drive against child labour across the East and North divisions, deploying multiple teams to inspect establishments where children could be employed.
Around 85 teams were deployed in the East division as part of the operation. Led by senior police officers, the teams inspected godowns, marketplaces, hotels, lodges, bakeries, bus stops, railway stations, apartment complexes and construction sites falling under the jurisdiction of all police stations in the division.
During the inspections, police personnel are verifying the age and employment details of workers to identify children engaged in labour in violation of the law. Children found working are being rescued and referred for rehabilitation.
A similar drive is being conducted in the North division. According to the police, nine children have been rescued so far during the ongoing inspections.
The special drives are aimed at identifying establishments employing children and taking action against those violating child labour laws. Police officials said the inspections would continue across vulnerable locations to prevent children from being engaged in work.
