Mysuru:
A free health check-up programme was organised for civic workers in Mysuru on the occasion of Civic Workers’ Day on Saturday, with several reputed hospitals joining hands with the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to safeguard the health of sanitation workers.
The programme at Brindavan Hospital on Kalidasa Road, Jayalakshmipuram, was attended by MCC Commissioner Savitha M.K., who stressed the need to prioritise the health and safety of civic workers who work tirelessly to keep the city clean and beautiful. “Protecting the health of sanitation workers who work hard to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the city is our collective responsibility,” she said.
Appreciating the hospitals that had come forward to support the initiative, the commissioner urged more reputed hospitals in Mysuru to join hands with the MCC and contribute to the welfare of civic workers.
Dr. Gururaj of Brindavan Hospital said the hospital was happy to be part of the initiative and advised sanitation workers to pay greater attention to their health. He also offered guidance on preventive healthcare and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
As part of the initiative, 320 civic workers from 25 wards underwent free health check-ups at different hospitals across the city.
The medical examinations included blood tests, ECG, X-rays, eye examinations and ultrasound scans, among other tests, enabling civic workers to undergo basic health screening free of cost.
At Brindavan Hospital in Zone 4, 30 civic workers underwent medical examinations. Among those present were Zone Commissioner Mahesh, Assistant Executive Engineer Madhukar, Environmental Engineer Mrityunjaya, Environmental Engineer Sridevi, and Health Inspectors Prakash, Harish and Rajeshwari. Hospital coordinator Gururaj and hospital staff also participated.
The health camps were organised with the participation of hospitals across the seven MCC zones. Arya Hospital and Venus Hospital screened 25 civic workers each in Zone 1. In Zone 2, Aravind Hospital examined 50 workers, Phaneesh Hospital 25 workers, Kamakshi Hospital and Suyog Hospital screened 20 each in Zone 3.
In Zone 5, Bharath Cancer Hospital screened 45 workers, while ASG Eye Hospital examined 30 workers in Zone 6. St. Joseph’s Hospital on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Road screened 25 civic workers in Zone 7.
The initiative highlighted the importance of ensuring regular healthcare and preventive medical screening for the city’s sanitation workforce.
