The Bengaluru East City Corporation is fast-tracking urban infrastructure upgrades to combat chronic traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety. Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar chaired a high-level review meeting with municipal engineers, town planners, and the GBA coordination team to evaluate ongoing development projects, with a strong emphasis on critical transit nodes under the Suraksha-75 Programme.
Discussions centered on accelerating pending junction improvements across key high-density zones, including Marathahalli, Doddanekkundi, K.R. Pura, Varthur Kodi, the Tin Factory intersection, Benniganahalli, Bagmane Tech Park, Iblur junction, and Kundalahalli. Acknowledging severe bottlenecks near the Tin Factory and Outer Ring Road service roads, officials were ordered to resolve on-site obstacles immediately and drop administrative delays as an excuse. Furthermore, the administration highlighted the urgent need to redesign the congested Munnekollal Railway Crossing junction to provide relief to daily commuters and motorists.
To maximize the impact of municipal funds, the Additional Commissioner instructed engineering teams to look beyond major arterial intersections and prioritize smaller, accident-prone black spots. Officials must coordinate closely with the Police Department to map high-risk collision zones across K.R. Pura and Mahadevapura, ensuring that improvement works target areas of genuine public need rather than arbitrary locations. Field inspections and formal reports must precede any new project approvals.
The civic body is also overhauling public transit infrastructure. Plans are underway to relocate existing obstructive bus stops—such as the bottleneck near Vignana Nagar—and systematically construct new, well-planned bus bays to prevent curbside traffic jams. Authorities stressed that bus bay placements must align with passenger volume data and traffic flow assessments to maintain road safety.
Concluding the review, senior officials urged all engineering wings to finish documentation, secure Good for Construction drawings, and execute projects transparently to mark the corporation’s one-year anniversary with tangible urban improvements.
