Nitin Nabin pays tribute to mentor

Patna

Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Nabin on Saturday paid tribute to his mentor, Padma Shri Acharya Kishore Kunal, during a Teachers’ Day visit to his alma mater, Gyan Niketan School in Patna.

Nabin, who was a student of the school’s inaugural batch, unveiled a statue of Kunal at the institution and addressed teachers, students and distinguished guests. He described the occasion as deeply emotional, saying memories associated with his school and mentor remain vivid.

In a message marking Teachers’ Day, Nabin praised educators across the country for their role in shaping responsible citizens and strengthening society. He also paid tribute to former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, recalling his contribution as a philosopher and educationist.

Nabin described Kunal’s life as an example of service, dedication and social responsibility. He said his mentor made significant contributions across education, administration, religion and social service, leaving a lasting impact on society.

The BJP president’s remarks came amid broader national attention on the role of teachers in children’s lives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had interacted with National Teachers Award winners at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg.

During the interaction, Modi urged teachers to look beyond students’ academic performance and remain attentive to their behaviour and everyday circumstances. He said the decline of the traditional joint-family structure has increased the importance of teachers in children’s lives.

The Prime Minister also asked educators to remain alert to signs of drug use among children, identify underlying causes and help affected students overcome addiction.
