District In-charge Minister Dr. Ajay Dharmasingh criticised the BJP’s ongoing padayatra, stating that the march would ultimately turn into a “Gyanodaya Yatra” as the opposition party had no substantial issues to raise. Speaking to reporters in Raichur, Dharmasingh said the BJP had failed to discuss the drought situation even for a single day during the Assembly session. “The Kasturirangan report and drought situation were not discussed by the BJP in the session,” he said.
He said former Minister B. Nagendra had voluntarily resigned in connection with the Valmiki Development Corporation case, but the BJP was still organising the padayatra out of desperation.
“There are four doors in the BJP. Even prominent leaders such as Jagadish Shettar, Basavaraj Bommai and B.S. Yediyurappa are not participating in the padayatra,” he said. Rejecting allegations that the government was functioning from air-conditioned rooms, Dharmasingh said ministers were regularly visiting districts and meeting people. He said all taluks in Raichur district had been declared drought-hit and that the government was reaching people’s doorsteps to hear and address their grievances.
The minister announced that he would interact directly with people during the first and third weeks of every month, while MLAs would meet the public during the second and fourth weeks. Complaints would also be received every Wednesday and necessary action would be taken to resolve them, he added. On Bengaluru’s traffic congestion, Dharmasingh said there was a need to establish alternative arrangements to ease traffic pressure in the city. He reiterated that the government was committed to addressing people’s problems by taking administration closer to them.
