Sri Krishna remains a powerful example of standing against injustice and protecting righteousness, Coastal Development Board President M.A. Gafur said.
Speaking at a Sri Krishna Jayanti programme in Udupi, he urged students to follow Krishna’s teachings and lead their lives on the right path.
Gafur was speaking after inaugurating the programme at Valakadu Government Combined High School, organized by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Kannada and Culture Department. He said Udupi is closely associated with Lord Krishna and celebrates Janmashtami with great enthusiasm. People wearing traditional costumes add colour to the festivities and reflect the district’s culture of peaceful coexistence.
Urban Development Authority Chairman Dinakar Herur said Krishna is remembered for protecting the righteous and helping the Pandavas during the Kurukshetra war. He said the festival reminds people of the victory of righteousness over wrongdoing.
Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary S.S. Kadrolli said the Bhagavad Gita contains valuable guidance for everyday life. He said Krishna’s teachings, given thousands of years ago, remain relevant today and can help people face difficulties with courage and balance. Retired Professor Dr. Srikanth Siddapura also spoke about lessons from Krishna’s life, describing him as a guide, philosopher, warrior and diplomat who protected dharma.
Speakers encouraged people to remain balanced during happiness and sorrow, profit and loss, and to control the mind while adapting wisely to changing circumstances. They said understanding and applying the Gita’s values can strengthen character and build a better society. Kannada and Culture Department officials, school staff, students and other guests attended the programme, which concluded with a message to make Krishna’s ideals part of daily life.
