Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday said Iran would immediately reciprocate if the United States returned to its commitments under a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Addressing the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Pezeshkian said Tehran remained committed to international obligations and treaties.
Pezeshkian criticised what he described as unilateral policies, military force, sanctions and geopolitical competition, saying these were threatening regional and global stability. He alleged that US and Israeli strikes against Iran on June 13, 2025, and February 28, 2026, violated the UN Charter and international law. He also referred to developments in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank as examples of the dangers posed by policies based on force and pressure.
The Iranian president said the attacks on Iran had caused extensive casualties and cited strikes on a school in Minab and a stadium in Lamerd, Fars Province. He described the conflict as a 40-day war and claimed that Iran’s resistance prevented the US and Israel from achieving their stated objectives. He also thanked SCO members and other countries that condemned the attacks and expressed solidarity with Iran.
Pezeshkian said negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar later resulted in the 14-point MoU. However, he alleged that the US commitment to the agreement lasted less than two weeks before Washington made additional demands and withdrew from its commitments. He said Iran had responded proportionately but remained ready for dialogue if the US returned to the agreement.
The Iranian president said his country did not seek war but would respond firmly to aggression. He stressed that regional instability harmed all countries and called for greater cooperation to achieve economic and security goals. The SCO summit brings together 10 member states, 15 partner countries and two observer countries to discuss regional and global issues, including peace, security, economic cooperation and development.
