The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has finalised India’s women’s squad for the upcoming U23 World Wrestling Championships in the United States after selection trials at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium.
Wrestlers competed across all 10 women’s weight categories, with athletes from Haryana, Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh fighting for places in the national contingent. The winners will represent India at the championships, while runners-up will join the national camp as sparring partners to strengthen preparation and squad depth.
Haryana emerged as the dominant state at the trials, securing top positions in several divisions. Parveen won the 50kg category, Sweety topped 53kg, Komal took 59kg, Neha won 62kg and Diksha Malik finished first in 76kg. Maharashtra’s Ahilya Shinde, Vaishnavi Patil, Mansi Lather and Amruta Pujari won the 55kg, 65kg, 68kg and 72kg categories respectively. Delhi’s Neha Sharma secured the 57kg title.
WFI President Sanjay Singh praised the competitive standard at the trials, saying the performances demonstrated the depth and strength of Indian women’s wrestling. He expressed confidence that the selected wrestlers would perform strongly at the U23 World Championships in the USA and the Senior World Championships in Kazakhstan.
The selected contingent will now assemble for an intensive preparatory camp before leaving for their international assignments. The runners-up will also remain involved through the national camp, providing quality competition and helping the federation build greater depth ahead of major global events. The trials underlined intense competition in domestic women’s wrestling and gave selectors a strong pool of contenders.
