Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji’s 111th Jayanti

Robot jumbo procession to be special attraction

The 111th Jayanti celebrations of His Holiness Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 28th pontiff of the Suttur Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math, will be held with grandeur at the Suttur Sri Math in Mysuru on August 29, said Dr C.G.Betsurmutt, executive secretary of JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

Addressing a news conference here, he said born on August 29, 1916, Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji assumed the pontificate at the age of 12 on February 28, 1928. He laid a strong foundation for social service through the three key areas of food, education and healthcare, and dedicated his life to the welfare of society.

As a special feature of this year’s celebrations, a robotic elephant will be used instead of a live elephant to convey the message of compassion towards animals and wildlife conservation. A road show featuring the robot elephant carrying a portrait of the Mahaswamiji will be held from the JSS College on Ooty Road to the Suttur Sri Math.

Distinguished Personalities to Attend Dharma Sabha

Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji and Sri Siddalinga Mahaswamiji of Siddaganga Math will grace the programme with their divine presence. Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji of Avadhoota Datta Peetham and Sri Nischalanandanatha Swamiji of Vishwa Vokkaligara Mahasamsthana will also be present.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will inaugurate the celebrations, while former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will preside over the programme.

Other highlights include: Dr. G. Parameshwara will flag off the JSS Science Vahini (Science on Wheels). Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah will release the second edition of ‘Rajendra Nudi Namana’. Minister C. Puttarangashetty will release ‘Man with Divinity: Poojya Rajendra Shree’. MLA Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will release ‘Nammolaginda Daiva: Poojya Rajendra Shree’. MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will release a special edition of the Prasada publication.

Former MP Sunil Bose will release a special edition of the JSS newsletter. All MLAs and Members of the Legislative Council from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts are expected to participate in the celebrations.

Felicitations and Welfare Programmes

At 3.30 p.m., 115 employees who retired between September 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026, along with 51 employees who were relieved from service, will be felicitated. Consolation will also be extended to the families of 13 employees who passed away while in service.

Meritorious students who topped the SSLC, PUC and CBSE examinations will receive Pratibha Puraskars, while scholarships will be distributed to economically disadvantaged students.

A donation of Rs. 1 lakh will be made to the Mysuru Zoo, and an information centre on eye, blood and organ donation will also be set up as part of the celebrations.

Books published under the JSS Granthamala will be available at a 50 per cent discount from August 29 to September 30. Prasada will be served to devotees in the morning, afternoon and evening during the celebrations.
