Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika on Tuesday defended the state government’s tough policing policy in the Assembly, asserting that law enforcement agencies must be allowed to take stringent action against criminals, including cyber offenders, to maintain law and order. Participating in a discussion in the House, Hazarika criticised the Opposition for questioning police action against accused persons while simultaneously demanding stronger measures to curb crime. Whenever the police adopt strict measures against criminals, the Opposition raises objections. Why should anyone oppose firm action against offenders? the minister said.
