BYC leaders protest jail trial inside Quetta prison

QUETTA

Leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) staged a sit-in protest inside Huda Jail in Quetta, opposing what they described as a “faceless trial” and calling the legal process unfair and unconstitutional. The protest, which entered its third consecutive day, was reported by the organisation in a statement shared on social media. The group alleged that authorities have imposed strict restrictions inside the prison and are preventing normal access to detainees.

According to BYC, relatives and lawyers of the detained leaders have been waiting for hours outside the jail but are not being allowed to meet them. The group claimed this has raised fears that the prisoners are being pressured or harassed while in custody. The organisation demanded that all legal and human rights of political detainees be respected and called for an immediate end to what it called an “illegal and faceless trial.” It also urged authorities to stop what it described as unfair judicial proceedings.

BYC leaders said they have been in custody for around 14 months and claimed they have faced both physical and mental hardship during this period. They argued that repeated changes in trial procedures show a lack of transparency and fairness in the process. Among those detained is BYC chief organiser Mahrang Baloch, who has been held since March 2025. Her detention has drawn criticism from human rights groups and political organisations. The Baloch National Movement also expressed concern, calling the proceedings unjust and alleging that the judicial process lacks independence and transparency in the case.
