Mother in law arrested for gold theft

Belagavi

A shocking theft case has been reported in Belagavi, where a mother-in-law was arrested for stealing gold ornaments from her son-in-law’s house. The accused, Ujwala Kammara, a resident of Piranawadi, was taken into custody along with her relative Shiva Appayan.

According to police, the accused stole around 110 grams of gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 16 lakh from the house of her eldest son-in-law. The incident took place when the couple had gone to attend a wedding, leaving the house under the care of the mother-in-law. Taking advantage of the situation, she allegedly stole gold items including bangles, rings, and necklaces.

When the family returned, they discovered the theft and questioned her. She initially denied any involvement. Later, the son-in-law filed a complaint at the Tilakwadi police station, leading to an investigation.

During questioning, the police uncovered the truth, and the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. It was found that she had pledged the stolen gold to repay debts related to the marriages of her other daughters.

The police recovered the stolen ornaments and arrested both accused. They have been sent to judicial custody. The case has highlighted a disturbing incident of breach of trust within a family, and further investigation is underway, police said.
