Air India cuts flights as fuel surge hits viability

New Delhi

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has warned of significant flight reductions as soaring jet fuel prices and airspace constraints hit the airline’s viability. The carrier has already cut some services in April and May and plans further reductions through June and July. A sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel costs, combined with longer routes due to West Asia airspace restrictions, has made several domestic and international flights unprofitable. Reports suggest up to 100 flights could be affected, including routes to Europe, North America, and Australia. With fuel accounting for a large share of operating costs, Air India said the cuts are necessary amid ongoing global disruptions.
