New Delhi
Ministry of Women and Child Development convened the first preparatory meeting of the BRICS Women’s Working Group under India’s BRICS Presidency to advance women-led development and social transformation.
The virtual meeting focused on shaping outcomes for the upcoming BRICS Women Working Group Meeting scheduled for July 6–7, 2026, and the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting on July 8–9, 2026, which will be held in Kochi.
Held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” discussions centred on key global priorities such as women in governance and leadership, financial and digital inclusion, entrepreneurship and skills development, and women’s role in climate action, food security, and nutrition.
Officials said the initiative reflects India’s commitment to women-led development, recognising women as key contributors to economic growth, governance, and social progress. The meeting brought together representatives from BRICS member countries along with officials from multiple ministries, as well as partners including UN Women and industry body FICCI.
Participants welcomed India’s priorities under its BRICS chairship and emphasised stronger cooperation among member nations to promote inclusive growth and shared learning.
India’s leadership of BRICS in 2026 builds on its broader vision of promoting a people-centric approach to global development, reinforcing collaboration across emerging economies on issues of resilience, innovation, and sustainability.
