State government programme promotes skill-based employment, reduces traditional job dependency, provides tools for self-reliance and financial stability enhanced
Kaup
In an effort to promote self-employment and economic empowerment among backward classes, BJP MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty from Kaup constituency distributed sewing machines to eight beneficiaries under the 2024–25 annual welfare scheme.
The sewing machines were provided through the D. Devaraj Arasu Backward Classes Development Corporation and formally handed over to the selected beneficiaries at the MLA’s office in Kaup. The initiative is aimed at supporting women and individuals from economically weaker backgrounds to start small tailoring units and earn a sustainable livelihood.
Officials said the programme is part of the state government’s broader strategy to encourage skill-based employment and reduce dependency on traditional job avenues. By providing essential tools, the scheme seeks to enable beneficiaries to become self-reliant and improve their financial stability.
During the distribution event, MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty interacted with the beneficiaries and encouraged them to make full use of the opportunity. He said such initiatives help strengthen rural households and empower women to contribute to family income.
Local officials were also present at the programme and highlighted the importance of government-backed livelihood support schemes. They noted that backward class development corporations are actively working to identify deserving beneficiaries and provide them with necessary assistance.
The programme reflects ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship at the grassroots level, particularly among women in rural and semi-urban areas. Officials added that small-scale tailoring units can play a significant role in improving household income and enhancing social empowerment.
The initiative was welcomed by beneficiaries, who expressed gratitude for the support and said it would help them begin independent income-generating activities in their local communities.
