Jevargi
Tension prevailed in Jevargi town as residents staged a road blockade protesting against the illegal sale of liquor in the area. The protest was triggered following the death of a daily wage labourer, allegedly due to alcohol addiction linked to the easy availability of illicit liquor. Locals blamed illegal liquor sales for the tragedy and demanded the dismissal of excise department officials who they allege failed to act against such activities. According to residents, some shops in Jevargi have been openly violating rules by selling liquor as early as 4 a.m. They accused the excise department of negligence, stating that such unchecked illegal practices have led to the loss of a poor labourer’s life.
Condemning the incident, members of the Tipu Sultan Committee organized the road blockade, disrupting traffic and drawing attention to the issue. A memorandum was also submitted to the Jevargi Police Station, demanding that a case be registered against the concerned excise officials. The protesters urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict legal action against those responsible. Tipu Sultan Committee President Muhiuddin Inamhar, along with leaders including Sheikh Saddam, Ghouse Inamhar, Mehboob Saab Inamhar (Channur), Dawood Saab Ibrahim Patel, and several others, participated in the protest.
