Virat Kohli added another milestone to his illustrious career as Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in IPL 2026.
Kohli scored a steady 49 off 34 balls, anchoring the chase at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. While the knock itself was measured, it proved pivotal in securing victory and also helped him script history in the tournament.
During the innings, Kohli surpassed KL Rahul to become the Indian opener with the most sixes in IPL history. He now has 185 sixes, edging past Rahul’s 184. In the overall standings, Kohli sits third behind Chris Gayle (326) and David Warner (210).
Among Indian players, Rohit Sharma is third on the list with 148 sixes, followed by Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill.
Despite not being at peak fitness, Kohli showcased grit and determination. He revealed after the match that he had been dealing with a sore knee and was unwell in the days leading up to the game. The batter was also seen practising with his left knee strapped before the match.
“Much better than the last game. I’m still not 100%, but I was happy with my intensity,” Kohli said, reflecting on his performance.
His innings, which included six fours and a six, took his tally to 228 runs in the tournament at an average of 57, earning him the Orange Cap. Kohli, however, admitted he would have liked to stay till the end and finish the chase himself.
Even so, his composed knock once again highlighted his consistency and ability to deliver under pressure, playing a key role in RCB’s growing momentum this season.
