Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback after left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2026 season with a quadriceps injury.
Khaleel, who had featured in all five matches for CSK so far, reported pain in his right hip during their April 14 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders. Subsequent medical evaluation confirmed a grade 2 tear, which is expected to keep him out of action for at least 10 to 12 weeks.
The 27-year-old had emerged as one of CSK’s most consistent performers in the early phase of the tournament, delivering crucial breakthroughs and maintaining control during key phases of the game. His absence leaves a noticeable gap in the team’s pace attack, especially given his ability to swing the new ball and contain runs in the powerplay.
A source within the IPL confirmed the extent of the injury, stating that the rehabilitation process would be lengthy, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season. The development comes at a critical juncture as CSK look to build momentum and secure a strong position on the points table.
Khaleel’s international experience, which includes 11 One Day Internationals and 18 T20 Internationals for India, had added depth and reliability to the CSK bowling unit. His last appearance for the national side came in July 2024, but his performances in the IPL had continued to underline his value in the shortest format.
The franchise is now expected to explore replacement options to reinforce their squad, though finding a like-for-like replacement may prove challenging. Team management will also need to reshuffle their bowling combinations to compensate for the loss.
