Trump, Zelenskyy discuss ceasefire, war resolution
Washington
U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have reaffirmed their commitment to ending the war through cooperation between their nations. In a phone call, Zelenskyy thanked Trump for U.S. support, particularly for Javelin missiles, and acknowledged ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Trump briefed Zelenskyy on his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both leaders agreed to closely monitor battlefield developments and strengthen defense cooperation. Zelenskyy requested additional air defense systems, including Patriot missiles, and Trump pledged to explore available options, particularly in Europe.
A partial ceasefire agreement on energy targets was discussed, with technical teams set to meet in Saudi Arabia to explore expanding the ceasefire to the Black Sea. Trump and Zelenskyy agreed this could be a step toward a full peace deal. Trump also addressed Ukraine’s electrical and nuclear infrastructure, offering U.S. assistance in maintaining stability.
Humanitarian concerns, including prisoner exchanges and missing children, were highlighted. Trump emphasized efforts to help reunite displaced children with their families. Both leaders instructed their advisors to accelerate diplomatic efforts, aiming for a lasting resolution.
Trump later confirmed on Truth Social that his hour-long conversation with Zelenskyy aligned with his discussions with Putin, signaling progress toward de-escalation. Further meetings will focus on ceasefire implementation and long-term security.
