US President Donald Trump has strongly criticised former ally Elon Musk’s decision to start a new political party, calling it “ridiculous” and saying it would only bring chaos. Musk, once Trump’s close supporter and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), recently announced his new America Party to fight what he called the US “one-party system.”

Trump and Musk fell out after Musk opposed Trump’s massive spending bill, saying it would increase US debt. Musk argued that both Republicans and Democrats waste money and are ruining the country’s finances. He promised to fight lawmakers who supported the bill.

Speaking before boarding Air Force One, Trump said, “It’s always been a two-party system. Third parties don’t work and just cause confusion.” On his social media, Trump added, “Musk has gone ‘off the rails’ and is a ‘train wreck.’ We already have enough disruption with the Radical Left Democrats.”

Musk has not shared many details about his party, and it’s unclear if it has been officially registered. However, experts believe it could split Republican votes in future elections.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also criticized Musk, suggesting he should focus on his businesses like Tesla and SpaceX.

Musk left DOGE in May to focus on his companies after Tesla faced backlash over his political activities. At the time, Trump gave Musk a “golden key” to the White House during a ceremony. However, their relationship quickly turned bitter, leading to public insults.

When asked if Musk should return the golden key, Trump refused to comment.
