Following the historic ouster of President Yoon Suk Yeol, South Korea's Acting President Han Duck-soo pledged to maintain national stability, ensure security, and steer the nation through a smooth political transition.

In a televised address Friday, Han reassured citizens: “As acting president, I will ensure there is no vacuum in national security or foreign policy,” affirming that public safety and diplomatic integrity remain top priorities.

The Constitutional Court's unanimous ruling upheld Yoon’s impeachment, stemming from his controversial martial law declaration in December. A snap presidential election is now required within 60 days, setting the stage for a rapid transition.

Han vowed to uphold constitutional duties and ensure a fair election, saying: “I will do my utmost to oversee a smooth and fair presidential election... ensuring the next government is launched without delay.”

He also appealed to public officials to remain steadfast and to political parties to set aside differences, urging national unity. “Please devote yourselves to ensuring the Republic of Korea overcomes this crisis,” he said.

In a proactive move, Han visited Seoul's central disaster headquarters, directing agencies to maintain public order and minimize potential unrest, especially as demonstrations grow in intensity.

He called on the public to respect the constitutional process and express views peacefully, emphasizing civic maturity: “Now is the time for the people. The decision must be respected.”

Han’s calm and decisive messaging is aimed at preventing a leadership vacuum and preserving domestic and international confidence in South Korea’s democratic resilience.
