A tragic shooting unfolded on Monday in Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor market, killing six people and injuring two others before the gunman took his own life. The attack occurred around 12:38 p.m. in the Chatuchak district, according to local news reports.

The shooter, a 61-year-old man from Khong district in Nakhon Ratchasima, was found dead on a bench inside the market. He was wearing a black T-shirt and camouflage shorts, with a rucksack placed beside him. His identity was confirmed through his ID card and driving licence.

Among the victims were four market security guards and one woman. Two women who sustained injuries were rushed to Phyathai Phaholyothin Hospital for treatment, authorities confirmed.

The Erawan Emergency Medical Centre said emergency personnel responded quickly, and the market area was sealed off as a crime scene. Residents nearby were advised to remain indoors, keep their doors and windows locked, and avoid the area until police complete their investigation.

Authorities are currently working to understand the motive behind the attack. Investigators are also exploring if the shooting is linked to ongoing clashes at the Thailand-Cambodia border, as the location is close to the conflict zone.

Meanwhile, tensions between Thailand and Cambodia remain high. As the two countries face their deadliest border conflict in over ten years, Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet are set to meet in Kuala Lumpur later today in hopes of reaching a peaceful resolution.
