Pakistani Foreign Minister to visit Kabul
Islamabad
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, will visit Kabul today (Saturday) to meet Afghan leaders. The visit comes amid rising terror attacks and Pakistan’s decision to deport Afghan nationals living illegally in the country.
Dar will lead a high-level delegation and hold talks with top Afghan Taliban leaders including Acting Prime Minister Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund and Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. He will also meet Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The focus of the visit will be on improving relations between the two countries. Pakistan’s Foreign Office said discussions will cover security, trade, travel, and stronger ties between people of both nations.
Before the trip, Dar led a meeting with top officials to prepare for the talks. The team reviewed security, trade, and border issues, and discussed ways to improve regional connectivity.
This visit follows recent talks between both countries, including a Joint Coordination Committee meeting in Kabul and an Afghan delegation’s visit to Islamabad.
Pakistan is expected to raise concerns over terror groups, especially the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and their alleged safe havens in Afghanistan. Pakistan will also address the repatriation of Afghan nationals staying illegally.
Meanwhile, the Afghan side is likely to ask Pakistan to ease deportations, ensure smoother trade at the Torkham border, and stop cross-border airstrikes.
Pakistan hopes this visit will build trust, improve cooperation, and lead to stronger bilateral ties with Afghanistan.
