The Namibian Presidency announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on July 9 will focus on expanding cooperation between India and Namibia. This visit marks Modi’s first to Namibia and is the third-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister. It is also the first bilateral state visit hosted by Namibia’s new President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who took office in March.

Modi’s trip is the last stop in a five-nation tour, following visits to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Brazil. During his stay, Modi will address a joint session of Namibia’s Parliament and visit Heroes’ Acre, the country’s war memorial in Windhoek.

According to Alfredo Hengari, Namibia’s Press Secretary, both leaders will sign agreements covering trade, investment, environment, education, health, and ICT. They will also discuss global issues of mutual interest.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that this visit aims to renew and strengthen the longstanding relationship between India and Namibia. India recognized Namibia before its independence in 1990, and both countries share strong ties across many sectors including mining, energy, healthcare, defence, and agriculture.

Modi will also pay tribute to Namibia’s founding father, Dr. Sam Nujoma. This visit is expected to boost economic and diplomatic relations and deepen the partnership between the two nations.
