Indian Minister meets Putin, thanks Russia for terror support
Moscow
India’s Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, met Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow for Russia’s 80th Victory Day celebrations. Seth thanked Russia for supporting India in its fight against terrorism.
Seth, representing India at the major World War II commemoration, shared images of his meeting with Putin on social media. “I am honoured to meet President Vladimir Putin... Expressed gratitude for Russia's support in India's fight against terrorism led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” he posted on X.
Seth arrived in Moscow on Thursday and was welcomed by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and Major General Oleg Moiseyev from the Russian Defence Ministry. He later met Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin for bilateral talks.
The two ministers discussed ways to enhance defence cooperation between India and Russia, especially under existing agreements. “We agreed to expand cooperation in view of the evolving global security landscape,” Seth noted.
Seth also paid tribute to World War II soldiers during a memorial event. His visit underlines India’s historical ties with Russia, especially in defence and military cooperation.
Originally, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was expected to lead the Indian delegation. However, his trip was cancelled due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s recent military operation named Operation Sindoor.
India and Russia have long maintained strong defence ties. Seth’s visit reaffirmed their mutual interest in maintaining security collaboration, especially at a time of global uncertainty and rising regional conflicts.
