Indian Minister meets Cambodian Senate chief, strengthens ties

Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita met Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen on Monday to discuss ways to deepen India-Cambodia relations. Margherita arrived in Cambodia on Sunday to promote cooperation between the two countries across important sectors.
In a post on X, Margherita shared, “Called on Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia. Thanked him for the exchange of views on expanding our strong development partnership and addressing shared challenges.”
During his visit, Margherita also met the Indian community in Cambodia, praising their role in connecting both nations’ rich cultures and traditions. He highlighted India’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and encouraged the community to continue being cultural bridges.
The Minister also interacted with alumni from the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) programs in Cambodia. He praised their contributions to Cambodia’s development and said, “It is inspiring to see India's capacity-building efforts supporting Cambodia’s growth.”
Margherita paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Phnom Penh, remembering his message of peace and non-violence.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, India and Cambodia share a deep cultural connection and a strong people-centered development partnership. Margherita’s visit is expected to further boost these ties and discuss new areas of cooperation. The Minister also reviewed India’s work on restoring World Heritage Sites in Cambodia, which symbolize the shared heritage of both countries.
