Indian-origin citizens in Canada expressed joy and pride as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to attend the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, following an invitation from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The visit signals improving relations between the two countries after a tense year.

Many in the Indian community view this as a diplomatic breakthrough. Calgary-based businessman Rajesh Jaiswal praised Modi’s leadership, saying, “We were upset when he wasn’t invited earlier. Now our community feels proud.” He also pointed to India's economic rise and criticized misinformation that harms India's global image.

IT professional Rohan Sankhe called the visit a “fresh start” for Canada-India relations. Referring to a Bollywood film, he said, “When something goes wrong, you start over. That’s what Canada is doing now.” Sankhe applauded Modi’s calm approach during strained times and credited India’s global standing to Modi’s governance.

Both Jaiswal and Sankhe agreed India’s influence has grown in areas like medicine, technology, and diplomacy. They stressed the need for Canada to strengthen ties with India through trade, education, and culture. “There is no real alternative to India,” Sankhe added.

The diaspora views Modi’s visit not just as a summit appearance but as a chance to rebuild trust and deepen cooperation between the two democracies. With India now the world’s fourth-largest economy, many see the invitation as recognition of its growing global importance and a moment of renewed hope for Indo-Canadian relations.
