India and Malaysia begin Joint Army Exercise
Bentong
The Indian and Malaysian armies have come together for Harimau Shakti 2024, the fourth edition of their annual joint military exercise. The event, which started on Dec 2 at the Bentong camp in Malaysia's Pahang district, will continue until Dec 15.
This exercise aims to enhance defense cooperation and prepare both nations for jungle warfare and counter-insurgency operations. The Indian contingent is represented by 78 soldiers from the MAHAR Regiment, while the Malaysian team consists of 123 personnel from the Royal Malaysian Regiment.
The training is divided into two phases. In the first phase, both armies are participating in lectures, demonstrations, and practice drills. These include ambush tactics, reconnaissance, and jungle survival skills. The second phase involves simulated operations where soldiers will work together to tackle scenarios like anti-terrorist assaults and harbor occupations.
The exercise also includes activities like traditional games to promote friendship between the forces. The focus is on sharing knowledge and improving coordination for real-world scenarios.
Harimau Shakti is an important step for both nations to strengthen military ties and ensure regional stability. It is held alternately in India and Malaysia every year, with the previous edition taking place in Meghalaya, India, in 2023.
This partnership showcases the growing bond between India and Malaysia in tackling common security challenges while fostering mutual respect and understanding between their armies.
