India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, is on an official visit to Mozambique to mark the country’s 50th Independence Day, and to highlight India’s growth journey under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his visit, Singh interacted with members of the 25,000-strong Indian community in the capital, Maputo. Sharing his thoughts on X, Singh said he was delighted to highlight India’s inclusive development and positive transformation under Modi’s leadership.
As part of the visit, Singh inaugurated a Jaipur Foot camp alongside Mozambique’s Health Minister Ussene Hilario Isse. The camp, funded by the Government of India, will offer free artificial limbs to around 1,200 people, aiming to transform lives and support families with mobility assistance.
Singh also visited the Salamanga Hindu Temple, one of the oldest in the region, and praised the resilience and devotion of the Hindu community. He described the temple as an “abode of peace,” emphasizing the shared heritage and spiritual ties between the two countries.
The Indian minister held bilateral meetings with Mozambique’s Foreign Minister Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation. Singh is also scheduled to meet President Daniel Francisco Chapo during the visit.
This year marks not only Mozambique’s 50th year of independence, but also 50 years of diplomatic relations with India. Singh underlined the longstanding friendship, adding that India remains committed to building stronger, people-centric ties with African nations like Mozambique.
